Back up, restore and move to another Mac

A portable metadata backup and a separate copy of your workspace files protect different parts of your work.

These steps refer to controls inside the Mac app, not this website. Guide source: 1.0.0 (128).

  1. Make a portable backup

    Stop and save any timer, then open Settings → Backup & portability → Export Full Backup…. Choose a safe destination for the .pccbackup file. It contains project records, tasks, time, finance, settings and recoverable deleted records. It does not package your project documents or grant access to another Mac’s folders.

  2. Keep an independent file backup

    Back up the workspace folder, linked documents and exported reports separately using your normal Mac backup process. Automatic app metadata backups run at most once per day while the app is running, with the latest 14 daily snapshots retained locally. Protected compatibility-recovery copies and manually named backups are separate from this daily retention policy. A backup on the same disk does not protect against loss of that disk.

  3. Choose merge or replacement deliberately

    Before importing, export your current database. Stop the timer and resolve any queued timer write. In Settings, choose Restore or Merge… and select a backup. Merge updates matching records and retains other records while preserving this Mac’s workspace/preferences. Replace Current Database validates the backup and replaces current app data and settings. Neither option changes workspace documents.

  4. Verify after restore

    Wait for restore to finish without quitting the app. Re-link the workspace if needed, then check representative projects, tasks, time and financial totals and open several linked files. If a backup requires compatibility repair and merge is rejected, read the error; do not delete current data to force an import.

  5. Move to a new Mac

    Transfer a known-good .pccbackup and a separate copy of the workspace documents. Install and open the app, select the workspace on that Mac, and restore the backup through Settings. Reauthorize and verify folder/file links. Keep the original Mac and backup unchanged until verification is complete.
